Big East Semifinal Field Hockey
Uconn 4 - Louisville 1

11/8/08 - The Big East Tournament arrived in Storrs, Ct on November 8th with four teams remaining. UConn, Louisville, Syracuse, and Providence colleges are all that remained and on this weekend they would battle it out for Big East bragging rights.

Game 1 - Syracuse, ranked 3rd in the country, knocked off Providence 3 - 1.

Game 2 - UConn defeated Louisville in decisive form 4 - 1. UConn's Junior forward, Lauren Aird, led the scoring with two goals and one assist. UConn went up 3 - 0, before Louisville's Kayla May, scored at the 38:37 mark. The Huskies would add another as Aird scored her second goal of the game.

Field Hockey is one of those sports I don't entirely understand but enjoy shooting. The flow of the game is constantly stopped for penalties that I do not see, or get. (Remind me to consult my girlfriend on this subject who played field hockey in High School). In any event it was a good game, I had the opportunity to shoot with my 1D Mark IIn that came back from Canon on Friday. I also for the first time since I can remeber, managed to shoot through an entire game with my own equiptment without seeing Err 01 flashing at me.

Unfortuntately for UConn, they were knocked out in the Big East Championship on Sunday by Syracuse. This also means that in one weekend Men's Soccer, Woman's Soccer, and Field Hockey all got knocked out of the Big East, leaving this the first fall since before I got to UConn, that UConn didn't win a Big East Championship.

BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!!!!

Women's Basketball - UConn vs Stone Hill College
Uconn 100 - Stone Hill 48

11/7/08 - First game of the season, well exhibition game that is. UConn's Women's basketball team hosted Stone Hill College at Gampel Pavilion. UConn decisvely beat the Skyhawks by 52. Standouts in this game included, Maya Moore, the sophomore phenom, who recorded a double double with 14 points and 11 boards, and Tina Charles who led the team with 19 points.

Freshman Caroline Doty tallied 14 points in her Uconn debut and Tiffany Hayes also recorded 10 points in her first ever Uconn game.

I have been waiting for this game for a few months. Last year I shot basketball with a 30D and a 70-200mm IS lens, and while it was fun, it was frustrating have 1D Mark IIn's on either side of me shooting away with it's much faster frame rate. WELL, the good news is I now own a IIn and was really looking forward to shooting the game with the better equiptment.

I shot this game with two cameras, my Mark IIn as my primary body with a 70 - 200mm NON IS (my lens is currently in the shop being repaired after a run-in with a soccer player, so I borrowed my associate editor's 70 - 200) and as a backup I ran with my hardy 30D with a 18 - 55mm Sigma lens for close to the basket. I definetly am going to be looking into investing in a remote so I can set up the 30D with a fixed focal point on the basket, as swapping in the middle of the game tends to be troublesome and I find myself wondering why I brought the 30D out at all. But of course that sort of thing costs money, YAY $21,000 tuition to UConn.

I went a little trigger happy this game and shot around a thousand images, which immediately after the game, I pared down to around 130.

Well time to go to work. I probably won't be able to get anything else up until after this weekend.
